What It Is

Since its inception Dubach Racing Development has put function over fashion, and its decision to only produce a single-sided exhaust system for the twin-piped Honda CRF250R is right in line with that theory.

Hits

After removing the stock twin-pipe system, we weighed both set-ups and found that the titanium Dr.D unit weighs in nearly two full pounds lighter. In this day and age, two pounds is a tremendous weight loss and definitely more significant than Honda's "better balance" marketing claims associated with the dual-exhaust design. The system bolted up perfectly, with a super-tight, leak-free juncture between the header and mid-pipes. We were shocked to find that the monstrous stock CRF250R powerband is even stronger with the Dr.D pipe installed. After romping through our shootout as the power king in its class, we couldn't imagine the '08 CRF250R getting any stronger, but man were we wrong! The Dr.D pipe gives the red rocket even more punch down low, and a stronger, broader mid-range pull that tapers off nicely in the upper rpm range.

Misses

The single exhaust could lead some overly fashion-conscious riders at the track to believe that your bike is three years old, but who cares? They'll feel that much worse when you blow past them.

The Verdict

Back in '05, we tested a Dr.D system for the CRF250R and declared it the best system we'd tested for that bike. Redesigned to match the new and improved '08 model, we have to assume the same holds true for the latest Dr.D pipe, even though we've yet to test anything else. This pipe rips!

Is the spark arrestor removable? Does this affect performance?
Asked by thefridge
Yes, the spark arrestor is removable. Any restriction to airflow will reduce power, but a spark arrestor will cause very minimal power loss.
Answered by MotoMoo2
Yes, the spark arrestor is easily removable in the new DR.D exhausts. And yes, it does affect performance somewhat. I noticed that the bike revved a bit more freely with it removed and that I may have gained a little off the bottom on my YZ 450F.
