" I honestly think this unit needs to be way better for the money... the mount broke first ride out and it was a small jump and it broke.. the RPM isnt that accurate even with the settings perfect. the speedometer isnt very responsive... i think it there could be a much better one. needs to be higher quality if u have a kx450f i dont rechomend this it is very cool but u could get something better for the money perfect for a quad or dual sport bike or something of that sport but for motocross.... no maybe trails im going to make my own mount that will be higher quality... " I got this for a Christmas present. It is a nice addition to keep track of your hours, engine temp, RPM's and such. I also got the stainless mount and new handlebars for Christmas. It looks good on my Honda TRX 700xx. "

Very good product
" I really like the Vaper Model. It is far superior to the cheaper model. It was fairly easy to install and set up was a snap. I used all of the preset programs was ready to go in 5 min. I would give this model 5 stars except the mount supplied is low quality. I could not use it on my bike. I modified my old mount to make it work. I went down to the Baja 1000 this year and rode some of the course, The water temp guage was a real help to prevent over heating in the deep silt. "

Very high value
" Installed on 2007 KX450F Item delivers a lot of value. I considered buying an hr meter so i could keep track of service, but this Vapor dash was only a little more money and delivers a lot of extras. Great for riding with the group and keeping track of how far you've gone. Included all the required installation components. The mount is not especially versatile. I first used it to mount the dash below the bar - see picture. While functional and protected, it wasn't easy to see while riding. So I fabricated a simple steel mount. However, classy mounts are available if you want to spend the money on them. Install took me a couple hours (I am expert level and have all the tools). It doesn't take a lot of tools, but you do need to get into the wiring harness and coolant line. Second photo shows coolant sensor installed. I did have an issue with the first unit, it failed to stay on and after talking to tech service at trail tech, they replaced the unit. second unit works great! "

Great alternative to stock unit
" My stock speedo was smashed so I put one of these on. Its nice to have a tach. This computer doesnt actually need power to run...it has its own replaceable internal watch battery. External power is used more for the LED backlights than to power the computer. No display backlighting without external power, not a big deal if you only ride in the day as you can see the display in normal daylight. Installing was relatively easy and universal. The plastic mount kit it comes with is flimsy so spring for the aluminum bracket kit. "

" It is ok, you get to see some stuff, if i could do it over again i would not get it. Yes is was cool to see the top speed of my quad, but installing it was the biggest pain in my BUTT i have ever experienced! Its cool to see how fast you can go, but save your money, drive next to a car. "

cool product
" very cool product. very hard and very long to install, it took me 13 hours over 2 days to put it on my kfx450 quad, directions are fairly easy to follow, flaw in the setup, says to wrap the rpm sensor around the spark plug wire and didnt work for me. I had to call up motosport once and trail tech 4 times! Figures out i had to directly connect the sensor into the spark plug coil. Once i got it on it looks and works great. deffinately would buy again! "

Great Item!
" I recieved this item 2 days ago- was expecting it to be a little bit larger but overall it's a nice size unit. It took about an hour and 20 mins to install- Nothing complicated just time consuming but the results were more than worht it- This unit works great and seems to be accurate. The only problem I had was with the temp sensor on the 400ex. It won't fit around the spark plug so you just mount it to a different bolt somewhere on the head. I give this item 5 stars- excellent "

Does it come with the 4 bolt bar mount?
Asked by Mopedman, Tucson
The Vapor and Vector computers come with a very basic plastic mounting kit. Please refer to: http://www.trailtech.net/7000-1000.html to see the mounting hardware that is included. You can purchased aluminum mounts, "dashboards" they are called, seperately.

I would recommend contacting the manufacture, Trail Tech, for specific application questions.
Answered by james718
For the KTM's we offer a kit that fits the KTM SX/MXC/EXC/XC/XC-W (OEM sensor style and radiator hose insert) 00-08, units without an outside power source (ignition) the LED and White back ground lights will not work, a simple solution would be to wire in a good small 9v radio battery this will give you approx 6-8 months of use.
Answered by ATVproductmanager, Tualatin
How do you hook up the power? can i power this with my cr125?
Asked by , PA
With out wiring the unit to a power source the LED and White back ground light will not work. An easy solution would be to wire in a good 9v battery, this will give you everything you need, they will last approx. 6-8 months. you could Velcro or tape it to the back of your # plate. I would also unplug the battery if its going to be sitting for awhile.

does it show the coolant or motor temp...or is it just the ambient temp?
Asked by raptorryder75
Depending on applications, on an air cooled motor it's going to be Ambient temperature on the liquid cooled motors it will be water engine temp sensors. they are model specific so you get the correct sensor for your application The Vapor and Vector both have Dual programmable temp lights and selectable F & C displays

how does the speedometer hook up?
Asked by raptorryder75, plymouth, indiana
On the Raptor and LTR450 they use a C-bracket that attaches to the left front wheel spindle, the magnet pickup replace one of the rotor bolts, this give you the speed. more info can be found to the trail tech web site: (http://www.trailtech.net/instructions.html)

Hookup?
Asked by SuzukiRider17
You have the option of running batteries (DC power) or you can hard wire the unit into the quads power source(battery/ AC). The speedometer works by inserting a small magnet into the rotor (where it doesn't rotate into the caliper) and you mount the pickup to the quad. I'm not exactly sure were the pickup is mounted on the Z400, but the instructions that are included will tell you exactly.

speedometer
Asked by yamaha760
In most cases there is a magnetic bolt that replaces one of the bolts in the front brake rotor. Once you get that bolt in place you will have to find a spot where you can mount the speed sensor no more than a half an inch from the magnet bolt on the rotor. This is just the general installation process but the computer will come with instructions to walk you through it. It's pretty simple.

You will have to manually turn the unit off.
Answered by james718
I have a Yamaha Raptor 700, i was just wondering what Trail Tech computer would you recomend? The vapor or the Endurance?
Asked by
It depends on how technical you want to get, the endurance computer is pretty basic and just reads speed, distance and time. The Vapor does speed, temp, RPM, Distance, and clock so it really boils down to what you would prefer.
Answered by Drewski, Portland, OR
RPM?
Asked by kegleyyfz450, VA
Yes it does tell you what RPMS you are at, there are RPM indicator lights to tell you when to shift and when you are too high in the RPMS but they need to be set up depending on what bike you have.
Answered by Drewski, P+RTLAND
Wher does the speedometer hook up on a honda crf 450x
Asked by toad400
The kit would come with a speedo cable and a magnetic bolt that replaces one of the bolts on your front rotor. So basically you replace the bolt on your front rotor with the magnetic bolt included in the kit, route the speedo cable down to your fork guard and line the cable up with the rotor bolt you installed according to the directions and you should be set. It's pretty straight forward.

2005 RM250
Asked by Amiro
The only thing you might need on the RM250 is a higher out put stator. As far as how the machine works, for MPH it comes with a magnetic rotor bolt that replaces one of the bolts on the front rotor along with a MPH cable that runs into the computer. Same concept goes for how it reads how many miles you have gone. If you need to find out exactly what you need to run this set up, feel free to contact Trail Tech direct or one of our sales reps.

Could be some wiring issues or that the computer is still running off the internal battery. The computer should have came with an instructions manual. Go back through the installation process and see if that fixes it. If you've already done that I would recommend contacting Trail Tech and see if their tech department can help you out. www.trailtech.net

2009 YZ250F

since your bike doesn't have a battery you would have to hook it up to your stator. Some bikes do require a higher output stator so be aware of this and be extremely careful when installing.

2009 YZ250F
Asked by LHMX2009
Yes you would need 75-300 if you have a 09 250F. Like i was saying, it will work with your bike, you just have to wire it to your stator. The computer comes with detailed instructions on how to install the computer and for liability reasons I can not break down how to install it for you. If you want to contact Trail Tech to double check everything feel free, but this computer will work with your bike. It's just a matter of wiring it in properly. PS: On trail techs website they do have their instructions so those should answer most of your questions.
